Paved Paradise: The Ecological Impacts of Our Planet’s Road Network
Some 40 million miles of roadways encircle the earth, yet we often see them only as infrastructure for human convenience. However, wild animals experience them as forces of death and disruption, with over a million animals killed by cars daily in the U.S. alone. Road ecologists are seeking innovative solutions to mitigate this destruction, such as bridges for mountain lions and tunnels for toads. Ben Goldfarb’s talk will discuss these efforts and how we can create a safer world for all living beings.
